Sara Tack, Principal Artist

A classically-trained graphic designer whose roots are firmly planted in the Basel School of design, Sara has developed and implemented identity programs for Crane & Co., IBM, Michelin Footwear, Pitney Bowes MapInfo, Silhouette, Windham Mountain, and many others. Under her art direction, our work has been recognized by the American Corporate Identity Awards, Creativity, Graphic Design USA, Creative Excellence in Business Advertising Awards (CEBA), The One Club, Rebrand 100 and most importantly, our aesthetically-savvy clients.

Co-founder and CEO at Smith & Jones, Sara is our principal artist in charge of designing brand identities and implementing integrated design systems. She is also an adjunct professor at Rensselaer (a.k.a. RPI), where she teaches identity design, color theory, advanced typography and publication design; and has served as adjunct professor at The Maryland Institute College of Art and Skidmore College.

Sara holds an MFA in Electronic Arts from Rensselaer’s groundbreaking iEAR program and a BFA in graphic design and photography from Purchase College. Her artwork has been exhibited worldwide, at the Museum of Art at the Dick Institute (Scotland), Nickle Arts Museum (Calgary), The Vancouver Video Poem Festival, Centro De La Imagen (Mexico City), The Kitchen (NYC), The Virginia Film Festival and is in the permanent collection of The Herbert F. Johnson Museum at Cornell University.

Outside of work and teaching, she enjoys travel, skiing, hiking, the visual and performing arts.
