UNBREAKABLE RESOLUTIONS

Vol. I, Issue 8

As 2006 comes to a close, we break with tradition by offering a simple solution to a recurring end of year problem: broken resolutions.

Every year, millions of people around the world make resolutions that break. While we could blame dubious intentions and lack of will power for this annual collapse in promise keeping, we at Smith & Jones like to think there is something more fundamental at work here.

We contend that it’s not the resolution makers who are at fault. It’s the common, undifferentiated, irrelevant and undeliverable resolutions they make. Think about it. The typical New Year’s resolution goes something like this:

“I’m going to quit smoking, cold turkey.”

“I’m going to drink less, starting New Year’s day.”

“I’ll never, ever, ever swear again.”

Yeah, right. Give us a break.

What these people need are better resolutions. New and improved. Word-smithed for added credibility. Great sounding proclamations with escape clauses cleverly hidden for added integrity.
