New Chingachgook ChairMay 3, 2007 — Katskill Bay, NY – Mark Shipley, Chief Thinker and co-founder of Smith & Jones, has been named Chair of the YMCA Camp Chingachgook Board Of Managers. In this role, he will work with other members of the board to further the camp’s master plan for development and act as liaison between the camp’s board and the Capital District YMCA’s Board of Directors. Shipley will also help determine the camp’s long-range goals, establish policies, monitor an annual budget and represent the camp in community and organizational affiliations. The camp, which is located on the quiet eastern shore of Lake George, in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains, was established in 1913 and is one of the oldest and most respected YMCA camps in the United States.

With a spectacular location on one of the cleanest lakes in the world, Camp Chingachgook sits on 200 acres of YMCA property and is surrounded by thousands of acres of forever wild state forest preserve. Children come from all over the world, and the staff is committed to helping each camper experience the very best time of his or her life while at Chingachgook.
The YMCA has recently invested over $3 million for facility improvements resulting in over 60 buildings, including a water-based pavilion, and 20 cabins. A wide variety of activities takes place on Chingachgook's extensive shoreline, which features two 80-foot docks and a fleet of 90 canoes, kayaks, rowboats, sailboats and waterski boats. Other recreational facilities include tennis, volleyball and basketball courts, softball and soccer fields, an art studio, photography darkroom, rifle and archery ranges, a high- and low-ropes course, a climbing tower, bouldering wall, an environmental library, a newly renovated dining hall and a large hike and trip center. A centrally located, fully equipped medical health lodge is staffed 24 hours each day.
